Citizen Academy
Please note the application deadline for the 2026 Citizen Academy has passed. You can submit an application now for the 2028 Citizen Academy and we will contact you before it begins in January 2028.
What is Citizen Academy?
This free program provides community members with opportunities to learn about everyday operations and the many programs within the Sheriff's Office. Community members are welcome to apply for this 11-week course which offers presentations, tours, and hands-on activities designed to give you an intimate look at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. Members that complete our Citizen Academy are also welcome to apply for our Community Advisory Group. Classes will be held from 6pm - 8pm on Tuesdays beginning on January 27, 2026.

- Animal Shelter and Services
- Civil Service
- Corrections, Jail and Medical Tour
- Emergency Management
- K-9 Team
- Major Crime Team and Investigations
- Patrol, Special Districts, Marine Program, School Resource Deputy, and Community Services
- Pretrial Services
- Search and Rescue
- And More
How do I apply?
Complete an application for the 2026 academy no later than January 5, 2026. Select the "Sheriff's Office - Citizen Academy" as the preferred organization on your application. Applicants will need to pass a background check before being admitted to the program. Space is limited and interested community members are encouraged to apply early.

Important Dates:
- January 5, 2026 - Application deadline.
- January 27, 2026 - Classes begin and will be held each Tuesday from 6pm - 8pm with the last class on April 14, 2026.
