Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Fall Creek Fire - Lincoln County August 2018

Update

Lincoln County and its state and local partners have recently updated Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners approved the June 2024 plan on July 3, 2024.

Background

The Lincoln County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) was originally completed in 2009-10 by the Lincoln County Fire Defense Board, the Oregon Department of Forestry, and the Lincoln County Department of Planning and Development with project facilitation and support provided by Northwest Management, Inc. of Moscow, Idaho.

The CWPP should be reviewed annually and updated at least every five years. The 2017 update was a collaborative effort with Oregon Department of Forestry, Lincoln County Planning and Development Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management, Oregon Department of the State Fire Marshall, local fire districts and departments. The University of Oregon’s Institute for Policy Research and Engagement was contracted to update the 2024 CWPP

The Community Wildfire Protection Plan expands on the wildfire chapter of the Lincoln County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (NHMP), which was last approved by FEMA in 2021 (an update to the NHMP will begin in the summer of 2024). Although published as a separate document, the CWPP is considered a supplement to the wildfire chapter of the Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan.
