Bridges

The Lincoln County Road Department maintains 87 bridges for vehicular traffic. In addition to the 87 vehicular bridges, the biennial inspection program inspects one non-vehicular covered bridge, and three public road bridges (Johnson Street, New Bridge Road, Aldersprings Road).

The county's bridges (including two historic covered bridges) open to vehicular traffic are constructed of timber, concrete and steel. Bridge spans range from approximately 10 feet to 470 feet.

Our bridge team spent several months making repairs to multiple county bridges in 2025. Most of the needed repairs were identified in Bridge Inspection Reports (BIR’s) provided by The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and necessary to keep the bridges open to traffic. Although the types of repairs varied, they included replacing rotted timber piles, shoring timber bridge caps, and reinforcing other structural components of the bridges.

Performing this work requires advanced training, custom order steel parts, specialized equipment, and complex coordination of multiple tasks. Additionally, weather conditions, soil moisture, and water levels can frequently limit when the work can be done. In some cases even the tide schedule impacted the work, thereby requiring the bridge crew to perform minor (or major) tasks in the middle of the night just so work could resume the next day. The Public Works Department is very proud of its staff and the work they perform. Thanks to our road crew, bridge crew, and the entire Public Works team, the longevity and safety of these bridges has been improved for the entire public.
