January was a busy month for our teams and community! In addition to the regular activities that usually kick off the start of the year, Lincoln County communities, as well as many communities throughout Oregon, were greatly impacted by severe winter weather in the beginning to middle of January.
The severe weather resulted in multi-day power outages, hazardous debris, and road closures. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) with team members and cooperators from the County, Cities, Tribe, first responders, service agencies, and other community cooperators. Over the course of that week, EOC team members and partners worked tirelessly to coordinate resources, establish shelters, obtain aid, and keep the latest information flowing to our communities.
What were your take aways from this winter weather event? Is your household prepared to shelter in place, evacuate the area, or check on neighbors depending on the emergency? Consider taking these next steps to help your household be more prepared for the next disaster.
