September is National Recovery Month

Hands across the Bridge event: Saturday, September 22, 2018, 11:30am

Join Lincoln County community members in celebrating recovery and wellbriety at the upcoming Hands Across the Bridge event on Saturday, September 22, 2018. The event will be held at 11:30am, meeting first at the Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center: 620 NW Spring ST Parking Lot, Waldport, OR. From 12:30am-3:00pm the celebration will continue with a BBQ at the Seashore Family Literacy Center: 265 SW Bay St, Waldport, OR.  All are invited to join fellow community members living in recovery, supporting those in recovery, and everything in between. For years, September has brought people of all backgrounds together to celebrate recovery and wellbriety, which is a term coming from the White Bison movement which promotes living sober and well.

Each year, organizations hold community events for the public to come together, explore resources, and share their stories. Gatherings like the local Hands Across the Bridge event remind the community that addiction and mental health disorders can happen to anyone, but recovery is possible.

Recovery month is also a reminder that prevention works. This is a great time to talk with youth or loved ones about substance abuse, gambling concerns, or a change in their mental health. Help break down the stigma of addiction and mental health disorders by talking with those close to you and connecting with treatment services.

National Recovery Month is a time to share, provide hope, and celebrate the journey of recovery that so many have walked.
