Lincoln Community Health Center receives over $84,000 in Quality Improvement Grant Award from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

[NEWPORT, OR] - Lincoln County Health & Human Services announced today that the Lincoln Community Health Center was awarded a Quality Improvement Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (US DHHS) for their excellence in clinical outcomes and patient centered care. There were $125 million in Quality Improvement grants awarded to 1,352 community health centers across all U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia. The purpose of these grants is to improve the health of our communities while reducing the cost of healthcare.  DHHS focuses on treatment of chronic illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes. In addition, prevention of illness can be achieved through annual exams and regular follow-up.

Lincoln Community Health Center (LCHC) received awards recognizing efforts to improve care through Electronic Health Records, maintaining status as a Patient Centered Medical Home, and in Clinical Quality Improvement.  LCHC was one of only two Federally Qualified Health Centers in Oregon to receive the prestigious “Health Center Quality Leader” award.

Rebecca McBee-Wilson, Health Center Director said today “The trend in healthcare is to see your provider when you are well so you can stay well.  Lincoln Community Health Center has embraced Quality Improvement as a way of doing business to help our community be healthier. An example of our success is helping patients with diabetes lower their blood sugar levels.  We are also looking at how we treat hypertension and work with staff and patients to find the best ways for people to manage and improve their high blood pressure.”

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners and the Lincoln Community Health Council partner to govern the Health Center.  LCHC Health Council President, Dawn Spielman stated “I’m so proud of the hard work of our Health Center staff and Council volunteers. This award shows that prioritizing quality care does make a difference.”  Commissioner Doug Hunt agreed. “Both the award and grant are an affirmation of our County’s dedication to providing quality health care and also a recognition of our outstanding staff providing care to our citizens.”
